About Us

System-On-Chip-Technologies

SOC specializes in high-performance video CODEC IP cores, including MPEG2, H.264, and H.265 encoders, decoders, and transcoders. Built using SOC's proprietary single-clock driven, all-hardware parallel architecture, free from processors and embedded software, these CODECs deliver an exceptionally small silicon footprint, ultra-low latency, and minimal power consumption.

SOC's MPEG video and audio CODECs are available both as IP cores for seamless FPGA-level integration and as standalone plug-and-play modules for direct PCB-level integration.

To meet the unique requirements of each client, SOC offers flexible customization of product specifications and hardware interfaces. In addition to CODEC solutions, we manufacture FPGA prototyping boards and provides a range of supporting IP cores, including Ethernet, UDP/IP, and video scaling, helping accelerate the development of video-based products.

The History Of System-On-Chip-Technologies

1995

The Start of SOC

In 1995, Dr. Shaowen Song embarked on a mission at Wilfrid Laurier University, fueled by a bold vision: to push the boundaries of CODEC technology with a unique approach. With this vision, he founded SOC, aiming to revolutionize the industry by focusing exclusively on hardware-based solutions. His goal was ambitious—to eliminate the reliance on embedded processors or software, creating a CODEC technology that stood out for its pure hardware efficiency. Through this pioneering path, SOC began its journey, setting the stage to become an industry leader.

2005

The Release of the MPEG-2 CODECs

By 2005, SOC was already making waves in the industry. It first gained attention with the release of its MPEG-2 CODECs, which set new standards for efficiency and performance. Not long after, SOC followed up with its H.264 CODECs, solidifying its reputation for cutting-edge solutions. True to its commitment to stay ahead, SOC eagerly embraced the H.265 standard as soon as it emerged, continually pushing the limits of what was possible and proving itself as a leader in CODEC technology.
